Reggie White 12/26

Well just yesterday former NFL star Reggie White died. Reggie played for the Eagles and Packers during his NFL career. Reggie first played professional football at the University of Tennessee (oh wait he didn't go to Ohio State), no he really played pro ball in the precursor to the XFL the USFL Memphis Showboats. Early word is that he basically died in his sleep from sleep apnea. I was never a huge fan because I hate the Philly teams; worst fans in the nation I mean come on they cheered when Michael Irvin got carted off at a game a injury that ended his career. Living in Chicagoland I've never liked the Packers, I take enough greif during the summer from Cubs fans about being a Cardinal fan and don't want to have year round grief for being a Packer fan.
A little backstory on the song when Reggie was on the Packers and they won the Super Bowl he was invited to speak to the Wisconsin state house. While speaking to the assembly he said something to the effect that asian people are great because they can make a TV the size of a watch and he said some other goofy stuff about different ethnic groups. Not Reggie's brightest moment, other than that I think he was an all around decent guy from all accounts. Reggie also had one of those unmistakeable voices along the same line as Dikembe Mutombo and his "Cookie Monster-esque" voice. So here you go vigil same place same time as usual.

Goodbye Reggie White
Philly and Green Bay knew you pretty well
You had the grace to rush the QB
Started your career in the USFL
You crawled out a Volunteer
Then a Showboats helmet in your hand
Became the minister of defense
Then it all got weird again

And it seemed to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing when to say
Disparaging remarks about Asians again
And I would have liked to know you
But a Eagles or Pack fan I never did
Your candle burned out long before
Your remarks to the Wisconsin house ever did
